History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during 1919. The company was first founded by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The company's first name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid during 1937, when the Salzgitter Group bought a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling equipment. In 1986, the company purchased the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into a global brand name in the succeeding years. Now, SMAG is the world's market leader, using grabs for waste disposal, worldwide cargo handling applications and agriculture.
