Reach Truck
A reach truck is used to store pallets of goods, supplies, and to keep storage areas orderly. The reach truck is available in several types: the stand-up reach, double-deep reach and straddle reach.
The simplest kind is the stand-up. The forks of the truck slide under the pallet and move it to the right storage place. The forks slide the pallet into position. This particular type of reach truck is recommended when shelving units are one pallet deep.
Ideal for workplaces where the shelving units are deep enough to accommodate two pallets of goods, the double-deep reach truck, which is like the stand-up, is usually utilized. This particular version has telescopic forks intended to place the pallet at the rear of the shelving unit. This saves having to push the pallet back when another pallet needs to go into the same shelving section.
Straddle reaches have the added advantage of being able to not only slide underneath the pallet, but also to grasp the sides. These are suitable for workplaces where shelving units could be accessed in many directions. This particular model is ideal in situations where goods would not be damaged if the pallet sides are grabbed.
Often more than one kind of reach truck is needed inside warehouses. Manufacturing facilities and textile firms use different types of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not difficult to use and could make the most of available storage space while increasing production.
